Safety Audit
Issue 8: The Safety Lesson That Keeps Teaching

by the Paranoid Sisters

We had a close call. Lisa's son Jon, got into the Sudafed. You can get the detailed story here. When it was all said and done, everyone was OK but Lisa was quite shaken. As it turns out, this close call would be a safety lesson that would keep on teaching.

Over the next couple of months, the medical bills came in. Over $1,000 for the ambulance ride, $250 for the emergency room and $200 for the doctor. Both our families are blessed with good insurance and so Lisa's portion was only 20%. Still a sizable amount of money for a family with 4 small children. Lisa explained, "Having to write the checks several months after it happened helped to reinforce the importance of taking appropriate precautions." As Lisa wrote out each check, it was a vivid reminder of a silly mistake that almost caused needless tragedy.
