Safety Audit
Issue 14: When It's Too Late, It's Too Late

by the Paranoid Sisters

Most of us look at child proofing like we look at an IRS audit: we hope we never have to go through it. If we do, we hope it only happens once. Have you ever looked around your once child proofed house and noticed the many hazards that have piled up like your laundry. As we do a safety tune-up (yes, even the Paranoid Sisters need safety tune-ups) we take you with us.

It seems like a lot of people have the "It will never happen to me" attitude when it comes to child safety and their kids. Unfortunately, accidents happen all the time that were preventable. Thinking this through, it leads us to the following conclusions.

It’s too late when:

You went inside the house for "just a second" and a child drowned in the pool.

A loaded gun was left where a child had access to it and a child was shot.

A child crashed his bike and they were not wearing a helmet and they have a head injury.

You got into a wreck and your child was not wearing a seatbelt and they flew out of the car.

You left medicines where children could reach them and your child had to go to the hospital.

You didn’t remove that old crib and your child got stuck trying to get out and died.

These are definitely morbid conclusions. As it turns out, many times every day, something like this happens to the "It will never happen to me" club. By practicing good safety habits, keeping informed and keeping safety at the top of our list, we hope to never become a part of the "It will never happen to me" club.
